Teacher's guide
Two sessions of 2 hours. Each student needs a laptop, a browser, and a free Claude or ChatGPT account. Tell them to create that account before Session 1. If they sign up in the room, account setup and phone checks take the first 15 minutes. Do not leave this page on the projector during Example A. The answer key is on this page.
Session 1: find, store, analyse

Talking points
- Say this first: the AI drafts, and the data file is the source.
- Before a chart or a memo, ask for the number of data rows. An empty download can arrive with no error.
- The question to reuse: does the answer change if we measure it a different way?
Answer key, Example A
- Mean cumulative rise 2020 to 2025: ASEAN 42.6%, G7 21.6%.
- Median: ASEAN 17.8%, G7 20.7%. The answer flips.
- The drivers: Myanmar 187.7% and Laos 133.4%.
- Spot-check values: Canada peak 6.8%, Cambodia cumulative 17.8%.
If a student’s figure differs, have them ask the AI to show one country, year by year. A skipped year is the usual cause. Averaging the yearly rates is the other cause. That average is not the figure in this key. Each year’s percent rise applies to the price after the previous year, not to the starting price.
Session 2: build and publish

Talking points
- Say this before the app: the AI writes one file, and the browser runs that file.
- The same prompt can produce two different apps. Judge the app by whether the chart matches the file.
- Say this before anyone publishes: a GitHub Pages site is public. No private data, and no passwords.
Common snags

| The chat stops mid-file | Type “continue”, or “give me the rest of the file”. |
| The app shows a blank page | Right-click, Inspect, Console. Paste the red text back to the AI. |
| File saved as index.html.txt | Turn on file extensions, rename it, choose “All files” when saving. |
| IMF portal looks different | The portal changes. The dataset is World Economic Outlook, April 2026. |
| ASEANstats blocks the page | Their bot check sometimes flags busy networks. Retry on a phone hotspot. |
Before each session
- On the projector laptop, open every page in the left-hand menu. Confirm each page loads.
- Before students arrive, run one step whose badge names a limit, on a free account. Note the wait message you get.
- Save inflation.csv from the inflation page and hand it out if the network fails. It covers Example A and the app. Do not hand out the ASEAN Yearbook file: its licence asks you to cite it, not share copies.
